Weight Loss; Purgatory or Paradise
I was recently vacationing in New England and was literally at the intersection of Purgatory Road and Paradise Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. My brain automatically clicked into thinking about diets and my own grueling road to permanent weight loss.
The diets I went on felt like I was in Purgatory.
You know the drill.
You are “good” for a few weeks and lose some weight but then you can’t stand all the deprivation, so you blow it. Then you gain back the weight and even more.
Then you beat yourself up and you are in Purgatory.
If you are currently on a diet, you know what the “perfect” meal plan looks like.
Black coffee or tea
Salad with grilled chicken and lemon (no dressing)
Broiled Fish with steamed broccoli, ½ cup of rice
Are you kidding me? Yuck!
This is what we have been told we must do so we can lose weight. Have you have gone on diets like this over and over? The problem is you can’t sustain this kind of eating permanently.
Too boring and restrictive
Many clients have told me they go on diets like this and make it through the day. As evening approaches they tend to overeat after they have “struggled all day and tried to be good.”
Once the food frenzy is over, they tell me they feel very guilty for overeating and feel like they have no will power.
The feelings of scarcity bring on overeating!
Of course, you are not sneak eating grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. You want candy, cookies and chips.
